  • Corrupt render files?

Posted by Christopher Knell on March 29, 2008 at 12:52 am

I’ve been battling this problem for a few hours now and can’t figure out what the problem is.

When I render the timeline of my DVCProHD 720 60 timeline, I get the unusable image seen here:

    https://chrisknell.com/Pixalation.jpg

Some times it’s the whole image and some times it’s not, like in the screen cap above.

It’s most likely bad render files but I’ve done everything from deleting them and rendering to another drive to moving the original material and re-capturing the media (P2 Log And Transfer actually)

I think I had this problem once a long time ago and was able to fix it but I can’t remember what I did to fix it.

Before I do the render, ( green and orange render lines above timeline) the video looks fine. It’s only after I render or render and export.

    Any ideas?

Thanks and I hope this is an easy fix.

I had this problem once a long time ago.. and my memory is a bit vague on what fixes it, but seems to me it was either reseating the graphics card in your Mac, or reinstalling QuickTime. I’d try that reseat first myself…

    Thanks for the kind words.

I’ll be mostly in the AJA booth showing the RED workflow with FCP.

I’m also doing a demo Mon, Tuesday, and Wed. in the ArtBeats booth.

Do come by… the RED demo aught to be enlightening… I hope.

So DO TELL what fixed this… the graphics card reseat?

… I’ve been working with the RED camera on a few projects for the last few months and I’m looking forward to what you and AJA have come up with. I just posted an interview we did with Ted on the HD EXPO site. All very interesting… I’ll be in line at the RED tent at 9am to see what this Scarlet thing is all about…

Here’s a sneek peek at the TED From RED interview…. It should be posted to the HD EXPO web site mid week sometime along with the panel Ted conducted during the March HD EXPO at the Beverly Hilton

    https://virtualhde.com/video/interviews/Schilowitz/schilowitz540.mov

While this is a Quicktime version of the video, I will be posting the panel in both FALSH and Quicktime.

    Enjoy…

BTW:…turns out that my video card (ATI Radeon 9800 Pro) was ka-putt…. went over to the west side and visited the old MacSolutions and picked up a new one… everythings working well now, thanks. Maybe I can talk you out of a brand new shiny AJA card, hu?

    Thanks again,

Ted. Now there’s such a fun person to listen to. So full of promise and passion is his demeanor… and make no mistake, RED is as revolutionary as DV and FCP was… Just sort of coming at it from the high end.

Come by the AJA booth for sure I’d love to show you what will be in most if not all of our futures I think. Scarlet will see to that…

The RED ONE we’ve been waiting for is arriving any day now, and I’m on pins and needles. Editing the footage has really opened my eyes to the possible… the images from RED are truly astounding. It really does compete with 35. The “giveaway” is no grain.. course you can add that if you want. It’s the coolest thing in the industry right now IMHO.

I remember the EC-95 camera from Ike that attempted this in SD in the late ’80s… man they were just ahead of their time and never really could make it happen… expensive it was, and did have a ‘film-like’ look (the gammas resembled film) but no where near the resolution and dynamic range that this camera produces. Ted and Jim really are the leaders of the revolution… I’m a believer.
