  50p to SD DVD

  Hi,
  we bought the EX1 Camera from Sony and did some test.

  This is my workflow:
  Sony EX1 with 720 50p settings to FCP (Studio2) with native XDCam compression.
  Then QT Export with current Settings (by reference).
  To Compressor with SD downconverting for DVD.
  And finally DVD SD multiplexing.

  Result on Consumer TV and LCD Monitor after burning the DVD:
  a right left camera move shot became “jittery”.
  on LCD Monitor the same shot is good, also on PC.
  I checked the Native Field Dominance in the inspector of the Compressor, it was always on Progressive.

  but didn’t notice a major change.

  Does anybody have a better result for that kind of workflow?

  What’s the frame rate of the MPEG file that Compressor creates? Is it 50i or 25p? If it’s the latter, there’s your problem.

  i’m out of office now and can’t check the file until monday, but is there a way to force the frame rate for the MPEG File encoding in Compressor?

  I checked the frame rate from the original file in the Inspector of Compressor and it was always 50 progressive so I assume that it comes out with that, or is that not the way it works?

  Anyway, thanks Sean, will come again on monday.

  I’m pretty sure the DVD spec doesn’t allow 50p. It has to be 50i or 25p. The DVD wouldn’t even work if it was 50p.

  you are right Sean, it doesn’t allow more than 25p 🙁

  so i tried the same with a 25p shot, and got the same result.

  I tried another way as described here:

  but result is not really convincing!
  May be it’s just not possible to get a good image on TV Screen and on Computer or Plasma or LCD…
