It’s impossible to say without knowing mare about what you want to do.

What enclosure do you want to connect it to? How many drives do you want to support? Do you need any kind of RAID protection (RAID 1, 3, 5 or 6)?

I have 2-1TB Satamax arrays from Promax (raid 0, I believe), that I use with my FCP Pro system at the office. I would like to be able to take these drives home on occasion, and edit with them on the new Mac Pro. I’m hoping all I need to do is pop the adapter into the PCIe slot, plug in the arrays, and be ready to go.

The simplest thing to do is to call Promax & ask them what’s compatible.

Arnie is correct – call ProMax. I believe that up until recently, ProMax was using the Cal Digit SATA card. Firmtek is an excellent company. But there are port multipler chassis, and single drive chassis – there is SATA (SATA I) and eSATA (Sata II). You don’t want to purchase something, and have it not work.

MacPro Towers have 2 additional sata ports inside the computer all you will need is this.

There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.

[Zane Barker] “MacPro Towers have 2 additional sata ports inside the computer all you will need is this.”

Just a warning, that solution won’t always work. The Mac Pro’s SATA ports don’t play nice with SATA-I disks. And they don’t support hot-swapping or port multipliers.

I like the Highpoint cards because while they are priced similarly to Sonnet and Firmtek, most of the Highpoint cards support RAID-5.

Thanks for all the responses. I agree the wise thing to do is to give Promax a call. Really the only way to be sure I’m getting the right thing. Thanks again!
