best way to do slomo wth the xdcam ex
Hi there
i shots some material with the 720 50p preset that i would like to slowmo to 25p
for now i export with qt to image seq 50 p than import that image sequence with 25 pthis works okay but has obivously 2x image conversion to and from png
with the HVx200 there is a wonderful little util to convert the frame rate
and the cinema tools dont work because of the structure of the file (inter or intra don;t remember)
any of you goeroe’s out there figured this one out yet 🙂

I don’t understand your workflow. Just drop the 50p in a 25p sequence and set the speed to 50%.
If you don’t like the slow in FC use Twixtor.Mac OX 10.5.2-FC 6.02-QT 7.4.1

What’s your experience of Twixtor Rafael? Last time I tried the demo it seemed awfully complicated.
For short sequences Motion or Shake’s optical flow looks good.

Actually I think the EX1 has the leg up here.
As long as you know what the camera is doing with your footage, you have several compression options when shooting 60 frames.
You can set the camera at 24p and overcrank to 60. The camera records something like 87Mbps onto the card. If you play back at 60 (doing a post speed up), you get a form of super high quality (though I’ve never tested this to see if it’s worth it). If you play back at 24 you get slomo at 35Mbps.
If you set the camera to 60p, the camera records at 35Mbps. If you play back at 60, you’ll have 60p at 35Mbps. If you play back at 24p (post slow down) you get slowmo at 14Mbps.
Then there are other options – setting the camera for 25p or 30 and overcranking to 60. This should give more data rate options when playing back at 60 or 24 (all would require post speed changes). I haven’t tried any of these. In fact I really should test all of this more extensively before saying much more about it!

If you try Twixtor again, don’t try the “Pro” version. That’s too complicated.
The basic one use a technology similar to Shake or Motion, but you can set the “Motion sensibility”. Another advantage of Twixtor is that you can apply it inside FC. You don’t need to go RGB.Mac OX 10.5.2-FC 6.02-QT 7.4.1

Only when shot correctly- if you wanted 25p on the EX1- you should have shot 25p not 50- there is nothing other than using FCP for the slowdown at this point. or set the camera up to be a 720p25 system then shot at 50p for the offspeed
(STUPIDLY called slow and fast speed on the EX1)your only solution now is in your NLE.
