P2 23.98 out to tape
I am getting hard drives with P2 720P 23.98 clips. I am also getting a bunch of Betacam and other SD footage. I want to string out all the P2 clips in FCP and out put to a DVCProHD tape.
I know I can just string them out on a 720P 23.98 sequence, but do I need to put the deck in a particular setting, or set the Kona Control Panel to add the pulldown?
I believe once before I just crashed recorded on the deck and it made a perfect 59.94 tape of the 23.98 material coming from FCP.
Basically I want to end up with an HD tape source that I can re-log and digitize in SD to the project.
Anyone doing this on a regular basis?

You’re better off archiving the original P2 media on DVDs, LTO3 or 4 tapes or even keep them on the hard drives.
Dumping to tape will lose your original TC and make you re-compress again on capture.

Ok I got the footage and it is in fact 1080i DVCProHD running at 29.97. Still I will be working on an SD timeline. I think I will be fine to bring in all the clips, string them out on a sequence and output to DVCProHD tape. This way we will have a timecoded tape that will match the clips and can be redigitized either SD or HD.
My concern is with 23.98 footage going out to tape, which we also get often enough. I wanted to be sure the 23.98 got the pulldown to make a 29.97 (59.94) HD source I could also digitize later either SD or HD.
One more thing….we are on all G5 dual 2.7 ppc so putting HD clips in an SD timeline is not a great workflow without the processing power to handle the multi streams and different resolutions…
Anyone else?
