  • Boris Text Generator Missing in FCP 6.0.2

Posted by Paul Bundock on February 29, 2008 at 11:18 am

    Hi,
Recently upgraded to FCPS 6.0.2 and now find the Boris Text Generator is missing. Only FCP text is available. Boris was there in FCP 6.0.1! Can anyone shed any light on this for me?
Is there something I’m not doing? or have they moved or removed it all together?

    Many Thanks,

    Paul

it should still be in the same place. Viewer > Boris > Title 3D. It is on all three of our systems running 6.0.2.

    Hi,

Boris isn’t there. I checked with a friend who also upgraded and the same thing has happened to him.
Quicktime 7.4 update has caused this. It seems this update broke a no. of things including Boris plug-ins. It has lost the bundle flags so are not being recognised by FCP.
You can download the calligraphy plugins for free and then copy the Title 3D Bundle and Title Crawl.bundle files into your plugins folder, overwriting the exisiting ones.

    This will fix any problems.

    Thanks

[Paul Bundock] “Quicktime 7.4 update has caused this.”

We never downloaded QT 7.4. We went from 7.3.1 to 7.4.1. 7.4 caused a myriad of issues.

yea we didn’t either download QT 7.4 either.
We also went the same path as you, straight to QT 7.4.1. and this is when it happened.

This happened here in Tiger but when I put in another drive and rebuilt the system to Leopard I didn’t encounter this problem. Might be Tiger specific.

Actually, the Boris dissapearing problem was caused by running the updater while FCP was open.

David, I didn’t have FCP open when I updated. It did happen on two machines running Tiger though.

Must have been a coincidence then, because all of the people I helped out of that jam had in fact left FCP running.

In some cases with some of the recent updates, Boris goes into it’s own folder in the generator pull down, look for “Boris.” It may be in there.

    Have a wonderful day.

    Hey Paul,
this happened to me too. Got the following solution from Boris support. Fixed the issue immediately.
Note: the link at the end doesn’t work if you use Firefox. Access it from Safari.

Here’s the long and the short of it. The four bundle files that make up the
Boris titling application called Calligraphy rely on the operating system to
flag them as bundles instead of folders. In some cases (like if you update
FCP or your OS) these bundles get mislabeled as folders, therefore FCP can
not “see” them and you loose your titles. The fix for this is simple. Below
is a link to where you can download a set of new bundle files that identify
themselves as bundles. Once you’ve downloaded them, locate the FCP plugins
folders here: Hard Drive>Library>Application Support>Final Cut Pro System
Support>Plugins. In there you should find the four FOLDERS named: “Text
    Scrambler.bundle”, “Title 3D.bundle”, “Title Crawl.bundle” and “Vector
Shape.bundle”. Delete those FOLDERS and replace them with the FILES you just
    downloaded.
    That’s it.

Please let me know if this helped or if you have any other questions.
