  • FCP 6 crashes when I connect a DSR-25?

Hi, I’m running FCP 6.0.2. Whenever I connect a Sony DSR-25 through firewire I get the spinning colour wheel. If I try an load FCP with the deck connected I get stuck on the splash screen until I unplug it. I’ve tried the usual tricks like changing the firewire and trashing the preferences. This is recurrent on all our DSR-25’s. I have a hvr-1500 which works fine through firewire so I’m guessing its not a hardware issue with the mac. Any ideas?

Try resetting the PMU or SMU on your Mac… search these terms at Apple Support, and follow the directions for your particular mac… It will reset the power managment on the FW bus which may well fix you right up.

Nice one! Fixed everything. Whatever corrupted mine managed to corrupt all the other macs in the studio as well. Any ideas what could of caused this?

Connecting firewire drives/cameras/decks with both the mac and the device powered up is likely the cause of the problem… don’t do that. Power up the deck or whatever AFTER you’ve connected the FW device.
