• Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy

  Internal Hard Drive advice

  Hi,

  I’ve just purchased an Apple Mac Pro Two 2.8 GHZ Quad Core and Apple Final Cut Studio 2.

  A friend recommended I fit 3 x WD RE WD5000ABYS hard drives. I’ve searched on-line and haven’t had any luck – most stores are out of stock! Can anyone suggest an alternative option?

  I also purchased a Radeon X1900 XT card. I removed the existing card, and placed the X1900 XT to the number 1 slot. Connected the power lead to the X1900 XT board, and the other to the MAC board. Result – no picture!!

  I’m new to Apple Mac’s – is there anything that needs to be done in ‘set-up’ or should it just work? The existing card works fine. Also, is the X1900 XT known for being noisy?

  Your friend is clearly partial to Western Digital hard drives, but they are neither better than or worse than the other manuafacturer’s drives. At this point all SATA drives are very good. Hitachi is a good choice because they are fast, robust, quiet and they use less voltage than some others.

  With reagrd to your x1900, you could have bad card or the card requires a different PCI slot configuration than the stock card. Call the vendor or the manufacturer.
