    Hi All,
I need to off-line a bunch of shows shot in HD 1920×1080 23.976fps. I will ingest HDCAM at some compressed rate then online each hour long show using PRORES HQ.

Does anyone have suggestions for the off-line edit. I a considering DVCPROHD. photo jpeg. and XDCAM. Has anyone used XDCAM to “offline” in final cut? is this possible? I will ingest using a decklink HD Extreme.

Does anyone have any other ideas?
    Thanks

Use DVCPRO HD. It is the standard for high end offline editing (high end meaning higher end acquistion, like HDCAM SR). Then recapture when picture is locked. DVCPRO HD is an INTER Frame codec, meaning individual frames, like your source footage. XDCAM is INTRA Frame, meaning it contains like 4 real frames, then a bunch of pictures. LONG GOP format…not good for offlining.

DVCPRO HD 720p 23.98 is your best bet.

    Shane,
Would you happen to know if the decklink HD Extreme can capture 1080 and transcode to 720 on the fly?

I’d suggest using DVCPROHD. It’s very edit friendly.

Photo-JPEG isn’t supported in RT effects and XDCAM is kind of a pain to edit with because it’s so processor intensive to decode.

    Russ,
Thanks for the link. I was having trouble finding it on Black Magic’s site.

    Thanks For the tip!
Is there a particular easy setup I need to choose. Or are ther settings I need to change to cross-convert on the fly?
