    Hello,
Wasn’t sure where the proper place to post this would be, many apologies if this is not the correct place for my question…

I recently purchased the new Mac Pro with the NVIDIA GT 8800.
I have read about the compatablility problems with the NVIDIA GT 8800 with the “old” Mac Pro’s but I am having issues with the new one. I am running a DVI cable (with gender bender) about 100ft to the monitor (Mac 30″) but I am getting no signal at all (totally black screen). I have tried this cable with the old comp and it works fine. I also tried a different brand of DVI cable (at a different location) with the New Mac Pro and that works lovely. So I am just wondering if some DVI cables are not compatible with the NVIDIA GT 8800 or is there some other issue going on here?
any advice would be much appreciated!!
    thanks!

You should probably contact the company that produced the cable that you’ve having problems with to see. Could it be an HDCP compliant problem?

It is likely the signal strength has degraded significantly because of the length of the cable. I would try another cable that is tested for that length. You can also try a DVI repeater.

That’s a huge DVI run. You might want to look at a different cable such as the fiber optic cables from Gefen. If you have a 30″ screen, you will need to extend dual link. 100′ is a major run, did I say that already?

    Prepare for some sticker shock.

100′ is way too long. Anything longer that 25 – 30′ requires something like a Gefen box. We us a Gefen 5500 HD model here to extend our computer 95′ from the monitors. Cost is $1,400 but it does work.

Thanks so much for all your help, I will definitely check out the geffen box (as most of our monitors are 100+ feet away from our machine room). What it turned out to be was the difference between a fiber DVI and a copper one, (works with copper, doesn’t work with fiber)
Thanks again for all your help!!

As everyone said, 100ft. is way too long for DVI/HDMI without any booster. Different video cards will vary on the signal strength. That’s why your old one worked but this didn’t.

I always suggest people try out the $25 HDMI repeater found at monoprice.com – I’m able to run 70ft with it. But… you are using a 30″ so that’s no good. You need dual-link DVI. HDMI adapters won’t work. Yeah, check the Gefen stuff.
