Final Cut Pro6 WON’T OPEN??!!!
I just installed Final Cut Studio2. I opened Final Cut Pro6 one time and tried to familiarize myself with it (I’m a complete newbie)
The next time I try to open Final Cut Pro6, the copyright window opens and starts loading the application & all seems well until it finishes loading. It asks me if I want to continue even though it can’t locate an apple firewire, i hit continue (that opened the application last time)…but now instead of opening…it completely disappears, as if it was never asked to be opened. All other applications in the Final Cut Studio2 package still open fine.
What have I done? I’ve reinstalled three times and it’s still doing the same thing!
IF YOU KNOW THE SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM…PLEASE HELP ME, I FOUND ONE OTHER PERSON ON THE APPLE FORUM WHO HAD THE SAME PROBLEM…BUT THE QUESTION REMAINED UNSOLVED!!

First thing to try is to trash preferences. Use FCP Rescue 6 for that. It’s a free download (donation voluntary).

If trashing preferences doesn’t work, I’d suggest a clean install of your startup disk. I think it’s pretty mandatory any time you upgrade an OS and any time you install the Studio from scratch.

Thank you for your response! Unfortunately, the problem persists.
FCP Rescue did the same thing as FCP6…it downloaded fine, then when I try to open the application, FCP Rescue gives me a message that it unexpectedly closed, and it disappears.
I then reinstalled my MacPro start up disks (which is what I assumed you meant by doing a “clean install”)
The FCP6 still does not open.
Should I trash Final Cut Studio & reinstall again?
What are you thoughts?

By a clean installation, I mean, erase your startup disk, and build it from the ground up.

Thank you for the clarification, Jerry! I’m happy to say that I found an instruction manual online earlier today that helped me resolve this issue.
It was definitely a case of needing to trash my Final Cut Pro Preferences…I’m not sure why the FCP Rescue wouldn’t open for me…but I basically ended up doing it manually and reopened my FCP6 to find everything restored to normal.
Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction & here’s the link for that instruction manual if you care to look at it & for anyone else who might come across this issue.

Hey, I seem to be having the same problem you did as initially it all worked fine when I opened everything up. Now however, though the rest of the fcs programs are working, both final cut express and final cut pro have errors during their start-ups that always cause them to “unexpectedly quit.” Any suggestions as to what has happened here and how I can fix it since it seemed to be solved for you? I also can’t download the FCS Rescue download for some reason, and the link to the mit help doesn’t work

Please give exact information on the versions and computer you’re using. Did you trash your preferences?

I got the same problem since yesterday.
My Final Cut Pro 6.0 doesn’t open anymore. I updated my FCP to 6.2 already, still didn’t work.
MacBook 2,1
– 10.6.4
– 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
– 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAMI read something about rebooting you start up disk and .kext files refreshing, but I have no idea how to do it.
