How do you convert NTSC to PAL in AE
The only way I see to convert a clip I made in NTSC compositions,(just text and vector graphics… no video footage) to a final render of PAL is to create a new composition as PAL and in the render queue, to use crop to get rid of the black bars.
I’m having 2 problems:
1. When I put the NTSC composition into the new PAL comp, the clip is streched and I have to rescale it to fit the window, which never comes out exact.
2. No matter how much I crop from top and bottom, I never get it right and there are always black bars on the TV screen. Can’t get the whole picture to fit nicely.How is ths done? Do I have make a whole new project in PAL and rescale every comp to fit in order to get a PAL project? Or is there is simpler way to just convert the NTSC clip to PAL without the black bars and keeping the aspect ratio?

I can drag an NTSC D1 comp into a PAL D1 comp and scale the NTSC comp up 118.5% (fit to width), and it looks fine, using the pixel aspect ratio correction switch to make sure.
Did you make your comps using the presets?

Yes, I used presets. Well, while I was waiting for an answer, I did just that… scaled the final comp. But I was lucky that there was not a lot of video action going on. If it had been only video footage, it would have been more complicated.

Oh, yes. 🙂 More complicated. You have frame rates to deal with, not to mention interlacing if that’s your thing.
For that, I use Twixtor and a special procedure for just that …. it’s covered in the Twixtor manual. But there should be something else on the COW, maybe on that sticky at the top of the forum.
