If I were to nest a sequence in a similar sequence (ie same format etc) and that NESTED sequence is RENDERED – then does it act like a CLIP? So in other words – when I place a matte over a rendered CLIP and it plays realtime – IF that clip were a rendered nested sequence instead would the matte still play realtime?

Yet another way to put it is – would it be better for me to RENDER A CLIP rather than nesting a whole sequence if I want to put on overlays and titles etc. Thank you.

No. As soon as you put an overlay on a nested sequence it will have to rerender the sequence and the overlay. If you don’t want that, you can export a quicktime of the nest and use that as a clip. It can get messy that way.

nesting actually works pretty well these days but I mostly use pre-rendered and exported clips. It makes changes tedious but I’ve gotten familiar with the workflow.

Try a couple of experiments, I think you’ll find nesting convenient, if a bit confusing. The two items that mess most of us up are naming the nest and then opening the nest later (option-double click). The naming thing still bothers me. It seems I end up renaming the original, not the nest.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
