    Hey all,
I’m currently running FCP studio on a PowerBook G4. I’m looking to upgrade Studio 2 and a refurbished either MacBook Pro 2.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or a Mac Pro Quad 2.66GHz Intel Xeon (avalable on the Apple site). I’m not that tech savy, I’d just like to get the best deal for the money. What are the pros/cons of the laptop vs the desktop?

I like the portability of the laptop but am concerned about rendering time and upgrade-ability.

    Thanks for all your help

It always comes down to portability. Desktops will always offer more power-per-dollar. So if you need portability, get the laptop. If not, the desktop.

It’s clear you understand this, but it has to be said: It doesn’t matter what WE think.

Once you decide that issue we can help you with specifics, but no one here can tell you if portability matters or not for you.

(The only factor might be if you need some kind of capture card that’s only available for towers. But since you’re currently using a Powerbook, that’s clearly not an issue for you.)
