  • HELP! Need to Edit to Tape and can’t!

Hey, I’m need to get a sequence on to beta, with specific timecode- start at 02:59:50:00, but every time i do an assemble i get a message saying that “the timecode appears to be missing from the tape” which it’s not, coz i put it there myself! I’ve connected to the beta deck (Sony Betacam sp BVW-75P) through an addenda rosetta stone USB/4 RS422 cable for deck control, which is working perfectly, and getting a/v signal from a firewire canopus analog/digital convertor using BNC to Phonos in and out, which is also working fine. So what happens is that when i drag my clip to the edit to tape window into the assemble pop-up, the deck looks for the in point and reaches it every time, it seems to think about it then for a few minutes then it comes up with the error message.
Any and all suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Esty

Have you successfully been able to Edit to Tape in the past with this setup?

You properly blacked the head of the tape with the correct timecode and have the deck set up to Regenerate Timecode?

Hi Walter, thank you so much for replying. Nope this is my first time hooking up this set up, i found the regen timecode switch and set in the correct timecode both on the deck and in the edit to tape window, but when i pressed ok to start recording the time code changed by loads, it went from 02:58:50:00 to 03:04:02:00, WEIRD!!!! and then a different error message came up saying that the “deck failed to set mode”, and so still didn’t record anything. I’ll keep playing around with that regen setting tho. But was wondering, is there anyway of using the print to video tool instead? and how might i get that to start at the correct timecode?
    Thanks again,
    Esty

It’s been a long time since I worked with BetaSP, but I think the problem is this. Beta records timecode in two places – VITC and the audio time-code track, and right now they don’t agree. When the tape is moving at normal speed, the deck is reading audio timecode. When the tape is slow or still, the deck reads VITC, and you’re seeing the discrepancy. There should be a switch that tells the deck to read time code as Auto, VITC or audio. You’re in auto now, so it switches to VITC when you stop the tape, and the deck is confused. The quick fix is to force the deck to read audio TC only, but if you re-black the head of the tape the VITC and audio timecode should agree and the problem will go away.

    Hope that helps.
