    Hi

I am mixing DV with HDV in an HDV timeline, PAL world. The final output will be a HDV master on tape. Because the DV material has to be resized and HDV-1080 PAL is upper field first, whereas DV PAL is lower field, I wonder whether I should de-interlace the DV material or process it in any other way to prevent having field issues, or this is something FC6 will take care of in the background ?

Because unfortunately I can’t monitor at the moment with a video monitor, I only have the computer monitor, I can’t really spot problems visually.

If someone has done this before and can give us a hand it would be very much appreciated, thanks in advance

I wouldn’t deinterlace – that will remove data, use the Shift Fields filter ( i can’t remember exactly where it is) but it will let you swap the field order (and i’d do that on the dv material only)

Don’t worry, FCP will look after it for you … it will automatically add the Shift Fields filter for you when you add the DV clips to the HDV timeline.

Do check it on a monitor before you commit back to tape tho’. You can use FCP6 to do a live DV downconvert of your HDV timeline, that way you can have a look on a typical standard def monitor or TV.

If you have a high enough resolution computer monitor you can also resize your canvas to 100% … that way you can see the interlacing and maybe spot any problems.

Thanks guys, that makes a lot of sense. I did notice that FC6 resizes automatically for you.

I do at least have a PAL video monitor and will use the live downconvert.

I love the cow, help comes fast

    thanks again
