    Hi

I have a project where I’m fading in and out of clips, however each clip is layered with a mask shape and a mosaic filter because I am blurring out middle fingers in each clip. However, when I fade in and out of different clips, during the fade the mosaic pattern comes up for a few frames. How do I maintain the blurred mosaic during the fade yet not make the entire screen go mosaic? Is there a “merge layers” function (like in Photoshop) – somewhere in FCP?
    Thanks
    K

If you’re doing a fade in and out (to black), one way you can approach this is to add a black slug on the topmost video layer for the duration you want the fade to black to be. Then you can keyframe the opacity so that it starts 0% opaque, goes to 100% opaque, then back to 0%. I use this method a lot as effects and transitions can give you unwanted effects when you have a comp with multiple layers, as your experience shows.
