I’m working on FCP HD 4.5 and I’m capturing from a minidv deck with a firewire cable and i try to capture video but the whole program freezes after 5 minutes and it is always after 5 minutes. I hope this is enough information. thanks.

I don’t know much about computers but it’s the Mac OS Extended on my computer.

For better results, you should be capturing to a different drive than the drive that contains the Mac OS and the FCP application.

That drive should be at least 7200 rpm, have an abundance of free space, and not be overly fragmented.

What version of Quicktime are you running? 7.3 broke firewire capture with FCP 4.5. You will need to get back to 7.1.6 to use FCP 4.5. This is not an easy process. Best practice is to do a clean re-install from the OS up and only update QT to version 7.1.6.
