    Hello,

When trying to import XDCAM EX footage to FCP with Sony’s XDCAM Transfer 2.1 I get the following error on about 90% of my clips:
“there is no timecode calculator in timecode track builder”

It won’t import those clips, doesn’t even show a thumbnail or preview. When I have a look at the corresponding XML file, there is definetely something odd in the timecodes. When I change that back to what the camera reads, XDCAM Transfer does “something” for a second, but then quits unexpectedly.

All clips play fine on the camera itself. They also play just fine with Sony’s Clip Browser (but that doesn’t convert it).

    Sounds familiar to anyone?

Another way to transfer the *.mp4 clips to something editable would also be fine for now! Anyone any ideas? I’m a bit stuck, or at least most of my files are…

How are you importing these clips?

Are you going straight from the camera? Or did you copy the media files to a drive?

I ask this because the way you copy the media can have a huge impact on importing the files. If you want to copy the files to a drive, you need to make a complete duplicate of the flash card to a folder on your hard drive. You can’t just copy the media files only. This won’t work and you’ll get error messages like you are getting.

This isn’t a bug. Its just a new way of working with media files from Sony since this is their first installment of solid state media.

I’ve been using different methods, all with the same results.
I’ve tried it straight from the camera.
I’ve tried it with the files copied to disk with the ClipBrowser.
I’ve tried it with copying everything with the finder as you described.

When I open the included XML in a text editor, there are also some weird numbers for the timecode (let’s say 17:13:44:46 in a 25p situation). My guess is the camera makes a “mistake” while writing timecode to the cards.
I’m also in touch with Sony support, but that might take a while…

    Hi Bernie!
I am having the exact same problem as you have. Can´t import any clips because of (There is no timecode calculator in timecode track builder) error message. Shooting in 1920 1080 25P and can look at them on the camera or in the Clip Browser. But the Sony’s XDCAM Transfer 2.1 is not opening the clips.
If you hear anything from Sony please let me know. I am in contact with them also and if I ear anything I will post it here.
    /Henrik

I am having this issue too with HQ 270 24p files. I spoke to Ian Cook with Sony America and he is aware of this issue with HQ 720 24p. He asked me to email the BPAV xml file and the clip xml file to help them figure this out. 1-800 883-6817 option 2-5-2 and ask for Ian Cook.

Hi, I have a big problem and if someone could help me I’d be grateful. I am trying to import .mp4 files shot on Sony XDCAM through XDCAM transfer in FCP but each time that I “Add Source” in XDCAM Transfer it seems to not recognize any of the folders with the source material. There is always an info about the added folder and a message “0 clips”. I doesn’t seem to recognize these files i.e. it acts like the folder is empty, but I am able to watch it only through VLC media player. Log and Transfer doesn’t work either.
    thanx in advance

Once you have all of the XDCAM EX plugins and software installed, you have to use Log and Transfer to import the footage.

    Vlad

You MUST retain the full folder structure of the source media if you want to work with these tapeless formats, they contain data necessary to the correct operation of the software … if you are pointing XDCAM Transfer (or Log and Transfer) at a simple folder full of MP4 files then neither will find any valid media inside, you need to point the import software at the folder which contains the full BPAV folder structure (within which the MP4 files are just one set of the associated data).

If you don’t have the full folder structure, only the orphaned MP4 media, then you need to download and install Sony XDCAM Browser 1.0 (XDB) or Sony Clip Browser 2.6 which will allow you to rebuild a new BPAV folder structure for that media. These are free downloads on the Sony website.

Alternatively, you might consider buying and using a commercial MP4 quicktime component for your system … these are available from Calibrated Software and Sony:
    Calibrated Software MP4EX
    Sony Cinemon MP4

    Hope it helps
