  How to capture live video w/code in FCP?

  I am trying to capture video from a camera (Sony DSR 500 or Z1U) over a firewire connection into FCP 6.1. It will see the camera if configured as a non-controllable device, but without Timecode. When I configure as Firewire NTSC I get the “waiting for timecode-device nust be in VTR mode” warning. I have set camera timecode to free-run on both cameras, but no luck. Anyone have a way to get timecode with pix in this situation.

  An ioHd will do it or a box from adrienne electronics.

  Hopefully this will get fixed in FCP sometime soon.

  I’ve developed a stand alone application that allows you to ingest without FCP. You can set TC to preset, free run or system time.

  Is it firewire only?

  Nope, in theory every input that has a valid VIDG should work.
  You can capture to any codec you want, but staying native to the input will give the best results.

  Mind the ‘theory’, i have NOT tested it yet, but you’re welcome to get a demo version.
