Gotta upgrade. The first version of FCP that worked with that camera was 5.0.4. But the only version available is FCP 6.

Sorry Shane, that’s not fully correct. Apple even called that version FCP HD because of it’s support for DVCProHD.
The only problem: you can’t capture from P2. You’ll need to get additional software to convert or you’ll need to use the FireStore, which can output QuickTime files. If that makes sense or if the integrated approach in FCP 6 is worth the upgrade is up to you.

    Regards,

    Uli

[Uli Plank] “Apple even called that version FCP HD because of it’s support for DVCProHD.”

Yes…DVCPRO HD from TAPE…not P2. P2 import support did not come until FCP 5.0.4. FCP 4.5 MIGHT be able to work with the footage after it has been imported, but it cannot import it itself.

[Uli Plank] “You’ll need to get additional software to convert”

Like P2 Log or HD Log…yeah. That might work. Haven’t tested it so can’t say for sure.

[Uli Plank] “you’ll need to use the FireStore, which can output QuickTime files.”

Have you tested either method? I wouldn’t recommend either method because I haven’t heard if it being done before.

Well, I’ve tested it with QT-files from the FireStore and it works. Wasn’t really useful for us, since Apple introduced full support for European frequencies only in FCP 6.0.2, so we went for the upgrade

Thanks guys. I had the P2 workflow papers from the Apple seminar, but it only mentioned FCP 5. I thought maybe it was because it was FCP 5 that they used in the class. I was thinking about upgrading anyway.
