  • Any reasons not to upgrade to FCP 6?

Posted by Dave Martin on January 11, 2008 at 4:25 pm

    Hi Guys

When FCP 6 first came out there were some issues (lost renders etc). Supposedly things have been fixed.

Are there now any good reasons why a guy wouldn’t want to upgrade to 6 (Studio 2) with Tiger and a MacPro Octo?

    Thanks once again for input…

Those are certainly some of the reasons I WOULD want to upgrade…any reasons I WOULDN’T want to?

Sorry, mis-read your post. Nope, i can’t think of a reason not to upgrade. Performance is just better on 6.

I would be cautious about the 6.02 update though.

Some folks have not had issues, some have.

I’m skipping 6.02 and awaiting the next update.

Isn’t that the one that fixes the lost renders?

I think so, but like most of the releases it breaks other things.

Funny thing about our Mac Pro Quad 3.0. It has never lost renders. Our G5 Quad 2.5 loses renders on occassion.

    That’s interesting!

Besides re rendering…how do you deal with the lost renders?

Ah – now that’s interesting. I have only seen this on our Mac Pro dual 3.0. Never on the other two G5 systems – not had a workflow that would cause it on our Quad 3.0’s – but I’m betting from what you say this might be Intel Mac only – don’t think I ever read that…
