    Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone knows what the difference is between the QT codecs Sorenson video and video 3. I’m doing some exports from Final Cut to then import into sorenson Squeeze… I know that Video 3 is the latest version of the codec, but why hae the old version too as an option? Hence me wanting to know what the differences are.

    many thanks in advance!

IMHO I’d stay away from Sorenson these days. If you’re making a quicktime for distribution H.264 gives much better results, unless you really need QT5 compatibility.

Sorenson is an old web codec (2001 I think) and I believe it’s day has come and gone. Unless you really need QT5 compatibility.

Sorenson3 can compress an image a little better with a slightly smaller file size than Sorenson.

Every quicktime video I encode is mandated for Sorenson3 unless the client specifically wants another codec, in order to have the broadest playback compatability.

H.264 is a fantastic codec, but there are a ton of users out there still running older versions that end up hearing it and seeing a white screen.
