Converting AVI 720×486 to 720×480 DVCPro50
I’m importing 720×486 AVI files into FCP 720×480 DVCPro50 (or 10/8 bit uncompressed)sequence. What I’m finding is that my picture looks fine on an NTSC monitor if FCP takes the 720X486 AVI file and scales it down (approx 98.7%) and shifts the position of the AVI clip (1 or -1 along the y axis) within the sequence. The picture will also look fine if I scale the AVI clip to 100%, but as soon as I set the position to 0 x axis, 0y axis the fields become blurred. I believe this is an upper/lower field conflict.
Is there a way I can center my AVI file (0 x axis, 0y axis) and scale it to 100% without this issue? I’ve tried to crop 3 pixels from the top and bottom of the AVI in Compressor, but it seems to have the same blurred field issue. I need to have this clip centered due to an aligned overlay. This overlay can be scaled…but I cannot shift it up or down (1 or -1 along the y axis) as requested by a client.
Thanks for any info on this in advance.
