  • Mac Pro – Multiple Video Cards

    Hello All,

I’m about to transition from a Windows PC running Vegas, to a Mac Pro and FCP. I know that the X1900 is the preferred choice over the 7300 GT, but has anyone had any experience with multiple 7300’s? Would a 2nd, 3rd or 4th GPU even be used by FCP or Motion? For only $50 more than an X1900, I can add 2 additional 7300’s to my Mac Pro, but if they won’t be used, then the X1900 remains the logical choice.

    Thanks!

Forget about it… Spend your money on an X1900 and your time learning FCP.

    Hi Tyrone,
I think the same than David. Pick the 1900.
Two 7300 will allow you to connect four screens (you need so?) but I think you may loose performance running all the GPU based software (Motion, Fxplugins,.).
My best wishes for David and for you for the 2008.

When we bought our Intels, the only option was the 7300. We stupidly bought the “4x graphics performance” which turned out to be four of the stupid cards instead of a four-times speed improvement with a single card. Our mistake, Apple’s marketing is not transparent, we were fools and I will never let our IT purchasing guy forget this.

But, hey, I can drive 8 (count ’em, dudes, EIGHT!) Apple Cinema 30″ displays form my one machine.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
