  Syncing audio to PAL cut – at my wits end – PLEASE ADVISE

  Folks, I’ve got a problem that I can’t resolve. Essentially a mix from our Pro Tools system doesn’t sync with my cut yet works in Soundtrack. I’ll outline the workflow to make this short:

  Settings:
  – Final Cut sequence preset for DV PAL

  – show edited in PAL in FCP 6, raw audio is in sync
  – OMF sent to Pro Tools LE system along with DV video of cut
  – Mix created and sent back as WAV
  – Mix put on FCP timeline
  – Audio drifts out of sync

  Mysteries:
  – Video and audio are in sync on the ProTools system
  – Video and Mix are in sync when played in Soundtrack Pro (from FCS 2)
  – Audio mix sample rate is the same as my timeline so no issue there
  – tried using sd2 and AIFF for the mix with no success in FCP syncing

  we don’t know what else to do. I don’t know how it is in sync in Soundtrack. I didn’t even change any settings – just imported a Quicktime of the video and imported the mix. Unfortunately whatever Soundtrack is doing to compensate, I can’t seem to export into a new file and have the sync with my FCP timeline – I tried it.

  Please advise folks. Nothing is working at this point.

  FCP System: Leopard/ FCS 2/ G5
  ProTools System: Tiger/ Pro Tools LE/ G5

  I send wavs/ aiffs from my Pyramix audio system into FCP all the time and never had this issue. (PAL & 50i HD)

  What sort of drift are you having and over what timeframe?

  Can you export an aiff from Soundtrack and see if that syncs in FCP

  It starts out in sync, but then gets out of sync over the course of 20 minutes (the length of the cut)

  I’ve tried exporting from Soundtrack, but that doesn’t do anything.

  I was hoping you could tell me how many frames short or long it ends up over the 20 minutes. It is possible to change the length of the wav file if it is a small sync drift. If it is a big drift then something else is going on.

  I know it’s strange. I actually don’t think its a drift anymore. In any case I took the vide from the cut and our mix from protools (as a wave) and put them in soundtrack and all was in sync.

  I took the same vide and audio and put them on a new timeline in Final Cut and they are not in sync after a few minutes

  My sequence has the right settings for the video (25 fps). The only difference is the bit depth (sequence is 32, audio is 16). Audio rates are the same (48 KHz
