  • Update on Pany Pro Plasma Issue

As I reported on Friday, something bad suddenly befell my 1-year old 42″ Pany Pro Plasma with the free 5-year on-site warranty. So, I called in the troops…

I was scheduled for a service call this morning between 8am and 12 noon. In Los Angeles, no company offering a four hour time window actually comes within the allotted time, but these guys were actually here bright and early at 8:30am. Wow, that’s impressive… Thanks Panasonic. Unfortunately, they had to cart my Pany monitor away, promising it would be back within two days however. Oh well, stuff happens…

Meanwhile, let me get to the good part… The entire service call took just ten minutes, with the majority of the time spent verifying my free 5-year warranty. The service technician just couldn’t get over the fact that Panasonic was giving so much away. Apparently the on-site service call, parts, labor, and re-delivery cost are worth far more than the original cost of the monitor. Wow, I knew it sounded like the deal of the century…

I suspect Pany doesn’t have too many problems like this, cuz one would think they’d be out of business soon if they did. In any case, at least all of the rest of you who bought these monitors can rest assured that Pany really does seem to stand behind their promises. When the monitor comes back I’ll let ya’ll know if it was on time and if it works…

    What happened to it again?

    Good question Jeremy…

I turned it off Thursday night at the end of my day and when I turned it back on Friday morning it would not display a video signal and would not switch between inputs. Of course I checked everything routed in, including the Kona card, BOB and cables, but the issue was in fact with the monitor itself. The technician suspects either the power supply or the control module went south. The plasma panel seems to be just fine, it just can’t receive a signal from any input.
