  Feedback: WD Caviar 1TB?

  Howdy Everyone,

  I need to replace an internal drive on a G5 I use for FCP, Motion, etc. I’m looking for a SATA drive that will give me the most bang for my buck and I was investigating the Western Digital 1TB Caviar GP. Overall, the reviews I’ve read online have been pretty good, but I’m wondering about the drives speed, which apparantly fluxuates between 5400-7200 RPMs using some new green technology. Supposedly, this doesn’t affect its read seek time but has anyone bought this drive and if so, how has it been working in a editing environment?

  https://www.barefeats.com does the reviews, and tests on drives usually in a shootout sort of article. Might check that site out.

  Many thanks for the hard drive test site. Looks like it’s filled with great info and will help me decide. And thanks to your article about how to achieve a rock-solid FCP system. I got straight from it when setting up my workstations.
