  Major Glitches: HDV to H.264 via FCP’s Batch Export

  HDV timelines being exported via FCP’s Batch export to H.264 are causing major problems for me in the delivery files:
  1. Random edits are retimed (clips are slipped arbitrarily, cuts are in the same place in the show but the footage is off by a second or so).
  2. In some instances, footage will jump back in time and “skip” like a broken record, or just skip ahead several frames. It looks like a bad jump cut.

  Attempted fixes:
  Exporting a self contained QT file and then exporting solves the issue, although it ‘s not practical (I’m delivering hundreds of films at a time).
  Work flow is in place and cannot be altered as far as software specs and HDV ingest/edit.
  Compressor is not an option, while the timeline is perfectly delivered to H.264, the frame size and pixel aspect ratio options are not compatable with downstream broadcast systems.

  Speculations:
  It seems to me that the problem is in the software and how it references the video material in the scratch drive. Random edits are rolled. As if the “ins and outs” have been shifted. I haven’t been able to find an explanation for it, but I speculate that it has to do with HDV’s long GOP structure and FCP finding the wrong frames within that GOP to export. (WHY?!)
