    Anyone else having this problem?

Getting projects from FCP 5.1.4 bringing them into FCP 6 and having real problems with speed events.

Today I had this and it’s presented itself before, the project was edited on FCP 5.1.4, I then copied the project to my system, ( Quad G5, OSX 10.4, X-San over fibre ) I then launched FCP by double-clicking the project icon. It took ages to get to 25% when I got the expected message about “…project was generated on an earlier version…do you want to upgrade…” Yes I want to, it went away for ages but eventually launched. The problem was though that any speed events came back at 5667%, not really what I wanted.
The project was huge, I thought about stripping it down to it’s sequence via Media Manager but I haven’t got a 5.1.4. system to do it on.
Could project size be the problem or is it just a bug?

Another thing that got me was that on previous upgraded projects I got a message about FCP dumping the 5.1.4 render files and having to re-render in 6.0.1, I didn’t this time…

I need to get this sorted as I have some major series starting soon and if I need to I shall be re-installing 5.1.4 to overcome this.

Any help, as always gratefully recieved.

Well, IMHO, stay with version 5 if you’re starting into a new big job. If you’ve seen my recent posts, we upgraded to 6 a couple weeks ago, and based on the myriad of problems my editors were having (and my sleepless night problem solving), we’ve gone back to 5. It’s stable, it works. FCP6 doesn’t really give you anything particularly different that’s a must have.

I’m thinking that a re-install will be the best option, I’ve just found and read your thread on FCP 6 cautions, it’s made my mind up really, to save any headaches I’ll be going back to 5.
