Sneakernetting SATA Arrays?
Hi all
I do not sure if this is on topic, but anyway
I have a ProMax 4 drive array with a tempo 4 channel SATA controller residing on a G5 Mac Pro. The Array is configured for Raid 0, and has 950 gB of formatted space, its connected to the G5 with 4 15″ SATA cables
I want to be able to unplug the 4 drive cables, and move it to an Intel Mac Pro that also has a 4 or 8 channel SATA controller. I then want to be able to plug in my 4 drive cables, and continue editing. Is This Possible? My boss says another editor has been doing this (nice the way bosses say that, huh?)
Does the striping information reside on the drive? or is it in the OS? would this work with a single esata cable to a “multiplier” array, so that the 4 channels are connected internally in the array, rather than between array and computer?thanx
