Warning when capturing to FCP 6
Hi hopefully you guys can help.
I’m editing a project on on FCP 6. I started out importing regular DV footage from a consumer grade HDV/ DV camera (Canon HV20). Then using that same camera I captured some HDV footage. In any case after adding the HDV footage and going back to capturing reg. DV footage I started getting this Warning.
Warning you are about to capture NDF media from a device currently detecting
Drop frame media. If you proced you may experince changes in logged; In and Out
points, problems relinking media or removal of Master clip relationships.I’ve changed the default capture and sequence settings from Drop frame to NDF and I still get the same message. I’ve also looked into the camera and there are no settings that allow you to control Drop Frame or Non Dtop Frame. Could this possibly be a problem caused by mixing HDV and DV footage?
Any help would be appreciated.

It depends on if your footage is DF or NDF. I have had problems in the past with this and it is always confusing. I have never captured HDV so, I don’t know much there but, if it works like DV then it should be the same. You have to make sure what tc your tapes were shot in. If they were shot DF, then use the regular DV NTSC easy setup. If they were shot NDF, then change the device control settings in the log and capture window to FIREWIRE NDF. I am not sure if the same will work on HDV footage. Also, make sure to play the tape a little bit so that the tc gets read from whatever tape you have in there. Perhaps FCP is still picking up the old timecode from the previous HDV or DV tape.

Thanks Jeremy. Sorry It took so long to give my thanks but your post wasn’t added within the first three days after I posted, so I thought no one was going to reply. I ended up just ignoring the messages. I finished importing and editing and then I exported with no problems that seemed due to that whatsoever.
Anyway, Is there some protocol to this page. Do I have to learn a secret handshake to get more responses. I mean the post was up for a while and your the only one that reponded. Thanks the heavens for you anyway. Thanks again and be well.

Not at all. There are issues that sometimes are hard to diagnose, and this one is one of them. Not everyone sees this issue and when it happens, sometimes things get really screwed up in the project, but most of the time you hit ok and keep capturing and your project ends up just fine. I think you found the latter to be true.
I just think you posted a particualrly untalked about problem with FCP. It’s not you and there are no secret handshakes here. If there are, I sure don’t know them so you and I are in the same club. Need me to send you your member coat?
