VGA to NTSC Monitor
Funny question but I am hoping the forum could help.
I am teaching at a school that has a large Mac lab for video editing using FCP. We would like to set up each station to have a color correct NTSC monitor. Currently the students capture their video through a shared deck so each station does not have its own deck.
Is there a way to send the video single out through a VGA card directly to the monitor and by pass a deck or camera acting as a single translator? If so could you recommended both the card and a good monitor?
A second question is there any monitors that could be recommended that accept both SD and HD singles

There is no VGA-NTSC converter that will really work well at all. And SD and HD compatible monitors? They won’t be cheap…
For DV, there is the Canopus 110 DV to analog converter box. This replaces the camera/deck as a way to get a signal to an external SD NTSC monitor. For HD signals, you need HD capture cards. AJA, Blackmagic, Matrox MXO. The cheapest card would be the Intensity and Intensity Pro. But then you need to find an HD monitor with HDMI to connect to this…consumer TVs will work, but not good for color correction.
The best and cheapest method I have found for HD monitoring that is broadcast quality is the Matrox MXO and Apple Cinema Display. This will run you $1900.

Just to be clear, are do you really mean VGA, or DVI. If it’s DVI then the MXO option will work. If it is really VGA then you will have to do one of the other options.

the Matrox MXO with an Apple Cinema display seems like a great solution. I have never tried to reproduce color on a LCD monitor before. does the cinema display work well?
