Although I requested a QT file, I was given a tiff sequence (1024 x 576) for a PAL SD project by the graphic designer. I loaded the files in FCP but the default duration was 10 seconds not one frame. With client hovering, I thought easier to import into Motion and then export a QT file.

Imported the tiffs into Motion but they were cut off at the edge (ie: not scaling to the SD anamorphic project that I had created). With client hovering I said I would fix the problem later. I prefer to work out what is happening with Motion as I would rather a single clip to grade. I am hoping that Motion can import 1024 x 576 and scale to anamorphic, rather than just cut the edges off. I have Photoshop and considered rescaling all the tiffs but I am sure there is an easier way.

I am sure one of the Motion/ FCP wise ones here could tell me what I set wrong while I look through the manual. Thanks

[Michael G] “I loaded the files in FCP but the default duration was 10 seconds not one frame.”

Just go into your preferences and change this to one frame, re-import to FCP. FCP should make it anamorphic.

YOu can change the default import time to one frame you know…

USER-PREFERENCES>EDITING….STILL/FREEZE DURATION. Change it to 1 frame.

Thanks Walter. That worked but I remain curious about Motion which is not a program that I use often.

Set up a new motion project at 25 fps, with a frame size of 1024X576, square pixels. Then import the tiff sequence. Set the output in Motion to PAL anamorphic, with whatever video settings you’d normally use.

Thanks Arnie. That did the trick. I was making the mistake of setting the Motion sequence to PAL SD anamorphic, not using a custom setup.

I was looking for a way to rescale the tiffs after import.

Yes but then FCP takes an AGE to open as it has to check all 10,000 frames of the bitmap sequences. FCP is the only NLE I know that won’t import frame sequences.

The workaround is to use QTpro to convert to a QTmov – thereby doubling your disk usage.
