Exporting speed
I am running a 2×2.66 ghz intel with 5 gig of ram and FCP 5.1.4. As i am exporting i open the old Activity monitor and noticed that the chips are running at only about 1/3 to half of capacity. Is this Normal? should i ignore the Activity mon, is it lying??? for some reason the machine(s) seem to be exporting slower than they did say last week. i am exporting from 3 machines to the same network but they still seem slower. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

No, the activity monitor isn’t lying. Often times FCP doesn’t use full processing power to export.

Exporting speed can depend on a whole bunch of factors. If you have three different machines connected to a network drive on a gigabit ethernet network then chances are, your network or hard drives are more of a factor of speed than your computers’ cpus.

Thanks Russ, thats pretty much what i thought. I dont know a lot about the net, but i do know it has 25 tb of isilon servers, and has pretty big bandwidth. I share it with a couple of different people. who are also doing pretty intensive things such as managing al the flip factory stuff thats constantly going on. thanks for your help.
