Best capture routine for JVC HDV material
Hi all. I am acquiring footage on a JVC GY-HD250 camera recording 720p at 23.98. I have a JVC HD50 VCR and usually capture footage via firewire to my MacBook Pro to edit. I’m considering the purchase of a new Mac tower with a AJA or Decklink interface. But what is the best way to get the highest quality footage off the HDV tape? The HD50 deck only has firewire, HDMI, component video and NTSC outputs. Should I get a firewire to HD-SDI converter like the HD-Connect SI Box by Convergent Design to connect between the HD50 and the AJA iO HD and ingest as Apple Pro Res 422 HQ, for instance? Any input on the cleanest way to capture great HDV footage for post in Final Cut Pro, would be most appreciated. 🙂
