  • offline render files in FCP 6.0.1???

Posted by David Jahns on October 1, 2007 at 4:55 pm

I upgraded to FCS2/FCP 6.0 when it was first released, and everything was fine. I went on vacation for a while, and when I came back, my facility had upgraded to 6.0.1, OS 10.4.10, etc…

All of us (3 FCP/KONA systems) seem to be having our render files go offline quite often, usually when restarting a project.

    Anyone else experiencing this?

Does it have something to do with 6.0.1, or is that just a coincidence? I used 6.0 for a month before vacation, and never experienced the offline renders.

There’s an article that might relate to your problem in the kbase at Apple.

Apparently, if you copy a sequence, then shut down FCP then reopen, the render files will become lost in the original sequence.

I am having a very similar problem. After shutting down FCP 6 and reopening the project, ALL of my media appears offline. I am using a Kona 3 card and captured my audio and video onto separate harddrives in a Burly port multiplier. I’m fearing that I am going to have to manually reconnect them all. I have been looking all day for answers to why this is happening. I’m going to try to find the article the previous poster wrote about. If I find anything, I’ll definitely let you know and please do the same for me.

P.S. I’m not sure if our two problems are related, but if so, it might help to know that my problem began when I was still using FCP 6 without the upgrade.

I was not able to find the article Jeremy mentioned.

I have not had an issue with captured media files, just with renders.

interestingly, it does seem to be related to duplicating sequences.

if I have a cut name version 1-4, and render files in that cut, then I’ll dupe it and rename it 1-5, sometime in the future, the render files for 1-5 will go offline, but not in 1-4. If I re-render it with 1-5, it’s stable. But then, if go to 1-6, I’ll know that I’ll probably need to re-render sometime soon…

what a pain! hope this gets fixed in 6.0.2!!!

Here is the article that was mentioned. So far apple has admitted FCP 6 has a render issue, but not real fix yet.
