    Hey-

So, i am trying to import my 25-30 hours of home video footage, and in an effort to not cause too much wear on my XL2 heads, I decided to use my sony handycam (mini dv, firewire). I went into log and capture, and when i began to play the video to set the I/O points, i got these horizontal lines that were green and purple… I don’t know what is happening! Please help. I really don’t want to have to use my XL2 for this.

    Hi Jonathan,

Welcome to the COW. What model of handycam do you have and how old is it? I’ve been using a little Sony DCR-HC30 as a deck for a couple of years now have never seen the types of glitches you’re describing. It sounds almost like a head alignment issue when your Sony is playing back the tapes or the heads need cleaning. At this point it doesn’t sound like a FCP issue.

It also could be a problem with the FW connection at the camera. Try plugging/unplugging the cable to check for a bad connection.

For what it’s worth I use my little Sony to capture footage from an XL2, GL2 and a Sony PD170 all the time without a problem.

Okay, it looks like it is a DCR-TRV30, and i have tried unplugging, with no luck…

    Thanks for your help!
