New to the 24p workflow, and yes, I searched before I asked
New to the 24p CineAlta world and need some help. Camera is a Sony F350, shot and edited 23.98 fps XDCAM HD 1080

iDVD cannot handle 24p, DVDSP can. So, it might be a good idea not to use iDVD…
The absolute simplest way to make a DVD using FCP and DVDSP is as follows:
1. Export a QT movie, either a reference file or self contained using current settings.
2. Open DVDSP, select the “graphical” tab and you will see two little monitors, one blue, one green.
3. Select the left blue one and hit delete.
4. Now, select the green one, right click on it amd select the top option “first play”.
5. Now drag your QT from the broswer and drop it on top of the green monitor.
6. Now, for a DVD from an HD source, look to the right side and select the “general tab” in the track editor, and see the Display Mode, and select “16:9 pan-scan.”
7. Hit the little black and yellow burn icon at the top of the page and put a a DVD in when prompted. DVDSP will encode and burn your new DVD.
THATS ALL!!!

DVD SP will encode your film and play it at 24fps. It does this with ALL the film DVDs you buy…they aren’t 29.97…they play at 24pfs. So if you shot and edited 23.98, when you encode, it will encode 23.98.
Use Compressor to Encode (there are presets) and then DVD SP to author.
Do not use iDVD…that is more consumer oriented.

OK David, mind if I make this a Stock Answer? Because it is ALWAYS asked, and is the EASIEST way to do this.
I might add the steps you take in Compressor, for better results…but this is great…down and dirty.

AMEN I would never give a DVD to ANY paying customer that looks like the one there 10yr old kid or nephew just made.

Even better I would love all the stock answers to be permanently on the cow, that whey when anyone asks we can all just past the URL for it in a replay.
