log and transfer trouble with sony HDR-SR7 AVCHD
I am trying to log and transfer my AVCHD video from my Sony HDR-SR7 camera. But no matter which file I choose within the directory, I get an error message saying “invalid data structure. please choose a folder whose directory stucture matches the supported media.
I have seached all over the internet with many people having the same problem but there are no answers.
please help!
I tried reformatting the camera because that worked for one person, but it did not work for me. Is there any way that I can tell FCP to scan for the files without me choosing a directory?i’m using a new macbook pro and final cut studio 2.

I know this post is a few months old, but I’m about to embark on a project where I am considering using the hdr-sr7 for a webbased project that will be edited on Final cut. I was wondering if you figured out a solution to your problem and how you otherwise found compatibility betweeen FCP and this camera? -
I’ve been using iMovie 08 and converting it to Apple intermediate Codec (AIC) and then opening it in FCP. it’s quite annoying.

How does the quality hold up? Does it still look good once you get it into FCP? I may want to do some green screen stuff so the whole point is to get the crisp HD resolution (even though its not real HD).
In terms of time–how long does it take to load, say, 20 minutes of video from the camera hard drive to the computer? Then how long does it take to convert?

it would take about 30-40 min. to get it a 20 min. clip onto the computer in AIC format. the quality is pretty good. I don’t think you’ll have a problem with a green screen, but you may want to ask others who have already done so. Best way to see is to try it though, and if/when you do, report your findings here.
