Serious FCP Crashing Problem – YIKES!
Hi there knowledgeable people out there in Forum-land. I have a serious problem with my Final Cut Pro HD Version 5.0.1.
I have been using this software on my Mac Powerbook G4 for a little over a year with out any serious problems. I know Powerbooks are not the best (fastest, most powerful, or coolest) computers out there, but it is what I got. I have supped it up to 1.5 GB of memory. I am doing my editing off a 500 GB Lacie external USB 2.0 hard drive. I also recently purchased a Sony HDR-HC1 HDV camcorder.
The problem that I am encountering happens when I try to edit DV video shot in DV mode with the HDV camera. Here is a summery of what happens –
I can digitize in all the footage just fine, I can even complete half a rough cut of what I am working on. Then the FCP starts to get funky (Actually, recently this has been happening sooner into the editing process). When I start playing a clip (either in the timeline or sometimes in the viewer window) FCP stops responding and seriously crashes my computer. I try to force quit out of FCP but it never fully leaves the program. Then the only way to restart my computer is to manually turn it off before it has properly shut down.
At first the problem happened in one project that possibly has a funky audio rate, so I thought it was just corrupt data that needed to be re-digitized. But then the same exact problem happened with another video and I began to think it might be something more problematic with my FCP system. I have already deleted my preferences and that didn’t do much. I have found that the more times I try to play anything in FCP the quicker it crashes my computer.
There is one more minor hitch in my problem. I got my version of FCP from an internship and I no longer have access to the install disks to reinstall the whole shebang.
Can anyone give me a clue what is going on?? I really appreciate you all reading this long post, and I sure will appreciate any advice I can get. If you need anymore information about my system let me know.
THANKS FORUM-LAND!
