  FCP will not export certain tracks as EDL

  Hi,
  I am attempting to export an EDL. I cannot compress the sequence down to one video track as the EDL is for archive purposes so I need to mantain all information. I’ve been able to export the first two video tracks and all the audio tracks. But, beyond that it acts as if it’s exporting the other video tracks but then nothing is created. I have recopied the sequence through media manager, simply pulled the sequence I need into a new project, moved around the offending tracks to other tracks, created new sequences within the original project. Nothing is working. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  So you’re making an EDL per layer, correct?

  I’ve had this happen so many times. Typically it’s a TITLE or a FREEZE FRAME that’s causing the hiccup. But not always.

  Why don’t you just export and XML if you need it for archive? that’ll keep everything in one file, plus all the FCP settings that an EDL can’t carry/

  Hi,
  It was requested that the information be received as an EDL so I am rather stuck having to deliver that way. And, I am making it by layer. Thanks for your suggestion, however.

  All items should have a reel number.
  An EDL assumes you are working in a linear VTR based edit suite.

  Hi

  sounds like the “request for edl” is coming from a network? its probably for archive purposes? do they just want a printout?
  ie in case someone has to go back one day and find a shot? just export the relevant video material ie the footage, and forget the titles/graphics/lower thirds etc

  if you have non tape media, such as animations, you may have to drop slug in to get it to export with the right reel names. I think FCP does some reel number/name substitution for non standard reel names ie joes_animated_open becomes 000001, with a listing at the top of the EDL

  heres waht i do

  make a copy of my final sequence. put all the primary video on V1, picture in picture shots or video overlays on V2. titles graphics etc on V3. also lay out my audio tracks so nat sound is on one and 2, music on 34 56, sfx on 78 or something like that. I believe the edl generation follows what tracks are enabled. if not just make copies of the sequence you made above, and delete tracks.

  This may take a lot of work in the beginning, but next time you can lay out your sequence so its easier to do. (or have an intern do it!)
