  Video Levels out of whack

  Can anyone clue me in as to why my levels look fine in the FCP waveform but not on my external waveform? They are way out of whack; whites at 120 IRE and blacks at -5 IRE, when they are in limits on the FCP waveform. Idiot check has been checked – the external WF is setup on the FCP bars to the proper calibration.

  One clue in this mystery is my baseline black level (the sync pulse I guess – the lines that should stay at -40 and 0) jump up and down from shot to shot.

  I’m working with SDI in and out for tape. The WF is using the Composite out and has a Sigma reference signal going to it.

  I thought I had the answer to this already but have since discovered this oddness of the baseline jumping all over and I don’t want to go lifting the black levels when the baseline seems to be the root of the problem.

  Any help from you engineer type people out there is appreciated.

  Is the input to the Waveform terminated correctly?

  Only thing comes to the top of my mind…
