  Different systems

  I am a self-taught editor and filmmaker, and have been on the amatuer scene in London, England for about 6 or so years. I am presently working as an editor on a feature lengh documentry.
  After having worked on it at home for a while, I am now to-and-froing to the Directors place, to work on parts of it there.
  At home I am using FCP 5.0.1 on a Mac, but at the directors place, he has FCP 5.0.4 also on the Mac.
  When I try to open the project on his system, it doesn’t seem to recognise it. Does anyone know why this is?
  As I have the lower version of FCP5 I don’t understand why this would be.
  Also after working on the project on his system and saving it to a hard drive to bring back to mine, would I be able open on my system? Or would I have to bring the project back to FCP 5.0.1

  Please do not use to much technical stuff in you explaination, as I a bit of a technophobe. Please assume I’m a dummy.

  You have to be using the same version of FCP. You need to find the 5.0.4 upgrade. He probably has it hidden on his system in a Receipts folder if you cannot find it on the web.

  HD/Library/Receipts/FinalCutProUpdate5.0.4.pkg

  This was free software update for FCP owners so there should be no copy right infringements to get the update file from the director.

  This is a touchy situation for everyone you can go up but you cannot go backwards even with minor revisions.
