Burning BluRay in FCP/DVDSP?
Is there any sign of being able to author a BluRay DVD on Apple yet?
I have an edited HD 1080 production sitting on the timeline and I’m itching to play one of my own productions on PS3 onto 1920×1080 Bravia.

Nope.
I’m not sure there will be either since 2 big things happened recently.
1. Paramount went HD-DVD Exclusive.
2. The BDA has mandated that ALL players WILL NOT be able
to playback user made BD-R/BD-RE made movies.There has been a rumor that the next PS3 update will disable burnable movie disc playback.
Already the panasonic or samnsungs have been disabled.

Yep, we’re already doing it.
Here’s the burner:
https://fastmac.com/slim_bluray.phpFor software we’re using a combination of Compressor to create the MPEG-2 files, Adobe Encore to Author the Disc and Roxio Toast 8 to actually burn the discs.
At this time, Encore cannot burn the discs at all, it simply crashes. Also, encodes via Encore look terrible, but via Compressor they look fantastic.
Our first project was a 720/59.94 HD project and it looked basically identical to the HD timeline when played back. Flat out gorgeous. Took us 8 discs before we finally burned a good one, but now we’ve got it working.

Is it not possible to author in DVDSP? Or do you just prefer Encore?

Its not possible yet.
I’ve had great success making HD-DVD’s though.
I burn one and they play in all the Toshiba HD-DVD players.

Sorry guys, I meant in FCP and DVDSP with a built in burner. Not having to buy Adobe software.
Pain about the BluRay thing, I’ve already bought about 12 BluRay movies and a PS3.
I’ll hold fire on buying anymore and stick with SD DVDs for a few hundred years until the ‘money makers’ fight it out with back-handers, bribes and …

Anyway, is BluRay a Sony thing? I asked a Sony guy in UK and he said BluRay is not a Sony invention; it’s a free for all?

Supposedly after Leopard comes out the Mac will support BluRay and then I suppose DVDSP will. Compressor does support the format though.

Sony introduced it and they are the primary supporter. But Samsung, Philips and LG also make BluRay players. Pioneer makes BluRay burners.
