I had heard that Apple was going to combine Shake and Motion. I know that the new Motion has a camera. Where all the features of Shake brought in as well? Or, do we need to hold out hope for a better tool?

Is that the color red you want to use?

Rumors are seldom accurate and at $499 for the upgrade to FCS2 I doubt you could really make a strong argument that you were “shortchanged.” The changes to Motion alone were quite substancial, maybe not enough, but certainly enough to take the product to another level entirely and to show that the product is evolving to become a much more substancial tool.

[hdfilmmaker] “I had heard that Apple was going to combine Shake and Motion.”

Never heard that rumor. Only that Shake was end of life and there was no word on what the replacement would be. Motion is not a likely candidate as it is a Motion Graphics tool primarily. Shake is an SFX / Compositing tool primarily.

My guess is a completely new compositing tool will be introduced or Apple will simply forego the SFX/Compositing arena and stick with Color Correction as their “killer app.”

    What were you shortchanged on?

David I agree with you. I did not mean to emply that we didn’t all get a great tool in FCS2. I was just wondering about learning Shake more as a stand alone or Delving deep into Motion.

Is that the color red you want to use?

I was under the impression Shake’s image stabilizer was included with FCS 2, based on the Apple website’s video demos, which they seem to have completely removed.

I am extremely disappointed that they can’t fix something as basic as Media Manager. What is up with that?

Learning Shake’s workflow is a good thing as it teaches you about Node based architecture. Though you can learn the same in Color.

Since we have no idea what Apple has in mind for the future, if you have access to it, use it. If you’re thinking about buying it, I would go with After Effects. I have Shake here and we use it on occassion but not that often.

The Image stabiliser IS in with the FCP filters and Media Manager works fine if you know how to use it!

Believe me when I say I WANT media manager to work. Perhaps you could respond to my earlier post…

    https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/8/948990

What is really strange is when I later opened other projects and duplicated my steps there were absolutely NO RESULTS at all. No output, no cleanup, no calculated disk savings…

What is the magic secret to making MM behave consistently? When I posted these same questions on the Apple forums the only response I got was “MM has ALWAYS been broken, that’s why they dubbed in Media Mangler”. So I gave up on it.

    thanks, td

A couple of tips – first fill in your profile so everyone knows what system you have and what version of FCP you are using, or alternatively mention this information in your post, this will certainly help you get replies quicker. Also there is a “search posts” function which more often than not will come up with some answers as well.

So what version of FCP are you using?

Okay thanks. Well, I searched the CC site and cannot find an “edit profile” feature anywhere. I can “view profile” if I click on my own post.

So here is my system specs. G5 2X 2.5Ghz. 2.5Gb RAM, ATI Radeon 9600XT, OSX 10.4.9, FCP 6.0
