FCP Previews Setups Controls Work, Captures Don’t
Equipment: DVCAM tape in Sony DSR-1800 to PowerMac G4 via FireWire 400.Computer saves to local disk or via fiber optic to server.
FCP 5.0.4 setup: A/V Summary: Sequence DV NTSC 48kHz, Capture DV DTSC 48 kHz, Device Control FireWire NTSC, Video PB Apple FireWire NTSC (720 x 480), Audio PB FireWire DV; A/V Devices: PB Output Video Apple FireWire NTSC (720 x 480), Audio FireWire DV; Capture Presets: DV NTSC 48 kHz.
QuickTime Pro v7.2
Operations:
1. Created named capture bin. Set in-out points (about 7 seconds), selected Capture Now. FCP rewound tape to start, began play (for capture), but capture never occurred, bin was empty and showed red X. No error message.
2. Same as above but selected Capture Clip. Capture was first frame only for 7 seconds, no audio. No error message.
3. Selected play. Picture, sound, and tape-deck controls are perfect. Selected Capture Now, and error message pops up: “Attempt to capture video without a video device selected. Please select a video device in your capture presents and try again.
Frustration: The above has always worked in this edit room, and still works perfectly in our other editing rooms (which use G5s, 10.3.9, FCP 5.0.4) with identical setups. We have tried trashing our preferences (including download and use of FCP Rescue), but that doesn’t have any effect. Have tried using Sony DSR-11, same problem. We see the picture (in FCP preview, and output monitor), hear the sound, and control the deck, but no capture. Another CC post for SOMEWHAT similar problem suggested updating from QuickTime 7.1 to 7.2 and it worked for that post. I updated from QT 7.1.6 to 7.2 and that did nothing to help.
Have I left anything out? Can anyone help? Many thanks.
