  • AVC Intra codec support in FCP?

Posted by Randy Burleson on August 22, 2007 at 3:43 pm

Has anyone heard anything about FCP supporting the new AVC Intra codec from Panasonic? I am considering buying the AVC Intra card for the HPX-2000 but it would be pointless without Final Cut Pro support for the codec.

FCP 6 will import the files as ProRes, or the AIC codec.

    Please check out my thread
FCP crashes on Log and Transfer.
I am having trouble with AVC transfer as are others.

    Erobert,

AVC Intra is a different codec than the AVC HD codec to which you are referring.

    Exactly,
The AVC-Intra codec is H.264 NOT Long GOP MPEG2 like the AVCHD codec is.
    Totally different critter.
I suppose it will be next year before FCP Supports it.
The boards for the HPX-2000 cameras just came out.
$3,000! but I think if you can double your recording time on the P2 cards it would be worth it.

I’m having a lot of trouble getting my footage to even register in FCP. We shot on an HPX 3000 in AVC-Intra 100. Now I’m wondering what the hell to do with it.

    Any ideas?

When I go to Log and Transfer the folder doesn’t show up — the system doesn’t seem to recognize the video as video. When I direct Log & Transfer to check out my routed folders, the folders turn up as empty.

The video’s there and looks great on the monitor, but I can’t bring it up in FCP.

    Help!

    Thanks,

    Adam

There is a free AVCi plugin on Panasonic’s website for FCP versions earlier than 7.0.

I use AVCi on FCP all the time and as mentioned above AVCi 50 surpasses the quality of DVCPRO HD at half the storage capacity while still maintaining the iframe structure which renders much faster than any long gop codec.
