  Transitions lost after compression

  I’m editing with Final Cut Pro Studio 5.1.4 on a Mac Pro 10.4.10 and compressing with Compressor. No problems editing but some transitions like the Push transition works until it is rendered then it looks like a slide. The work around is to use the Push Slide transition instead which works fine but this is not my issue only a potential symptom.

  The Push Slide, Cube Spin and the Spinback 3D all look good until I compress the video for DVD, then only the video I’m transitioning to spins or rotates, the remaining video dose nothing. Sometimes I can see an outline of the video moving but it is transparent. By the way, all of the other transitions or effects in the program work great.

  I’ve tried using Quicktime for compressing, starting a new project with fresh video, changing the settings in compressor, scanning with the disc utility and of course re-booting but I can’t get any of those transitions to work properly after they have been compressed.

  Hi,

  Try deleting your render files – do a save as and re-render.
  And what is your compression workflow?
  – Export to Compressor from Final Cut?
  – Export to Quicktime self-contained – and then Compressor.
  or – Export to Quicktime reference – and then compressor?

  Hi Andreas,

  I’ll try deleting the render files. I’m just curious, why do a “save as?”

  I am Exporting directly from a Final Cut sequence to Compressor. I tried exporting to QuickTime as well but I got the same results.

  Sorry to report that I did delete the render files, “save as” and re-rendered but to no avail. Any other thoughts?

  Hi,

  Sorry it didn’t work out.
  – doing a “save as” forces FC to “re-think” all the metadata or file size,-type etc in a project.

  If you view the quicktime film you exported, is the transition correct? or is it in the m2v compression the error appears?

  Work around might be to do a edit to tape and get your master into FC – then do an export.
