DVCPRO HD Exporting as 1920 and not 1280!
I have a DVCPROHD timeline and I’m exporting the final show as a self-contained file to bring back into FCP.
If I export short segments from the timeline, they all export and import back into FCP as 1280×1080 like they should.
If I export the whole show, when I bring it back into FCP, the resolution is 1920×1080 which doesn’t playback natively in a DVCPRO HD timeline!
I’m still doing some more testing, but does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

These problems have been happening with FCP5.1 and QT 7.2. While I haven’t tried using FCP6 to export yet, the file exported from FCP5.1 still imports into FCP6 as 1920×1080.

Open the movie in quicktime, then hit Apple-J.
Select the video track, then click the visual settings tab.
Turn off the preserve aspect ratio box and change the x value from 1920 to 1280.
Close the quicktime movie and save it when it asks you to.

Again, here is Jeremy with the solution…thank you.
BUT…why do we have to do this suddenly? Before (I mean weeks before) I was able to output a self contained movie, reimport that and it worked fine. Now I do that and I have to render….because the dimensions changed.
What gets me is that I didn’t update anything and this changed. And to have to do that is a bit of a pain and something that I shouldn’t have to do.
I’m sending feedback to Apple…I am NOT happy about this.

That worked (after I tried it twice and changed the name of the file).
But something is definitely wrong with FCP. Sometimes it changes the dimensions and sometimes it doesn’t. Even from the same timeline and settings.
My guess is that it is really a QT issue, but we’ll have to see.

My G5 is running QT 7.1.3 and my laptop 7.1.6. It happened with BOTH versions. At first I thought it was limited to my laptop and the 7.1.6 update, cut then it happened on my G5. Which is ODD because 3 weeks ago I exported my ENTIRE show…texted and textless…imported that into a NEW project that I then formatted (bars and slate) and took to a post facility for output. No render issues. Dimensions were 960×720. But then I exported a few SHORT forms a week later and that issue popped up…and I didn’t upgrade anything.
Which I find VERY odd.

I thought you were going to say 7.2 because I like to blame stuff on new point releases. 😀
I have 7.1.6 over here, I can’t say that I’ve seen it, but it’s rare that I export then reimport. Does it happen if the movie is self contained vs a reference file?

Hold on, while the file dimensions now say 1280×1080 in FCP, it still needs to be rendered when I put it in a timeline. I’ve quadruple checked my sequence settings. They match, but it still doesn’t give me the grey bar on the top (it’s orangey-yellow).
hmmm….
Just tried FCP 6 in a new timeline and told it to conform the sequence to the clip settings and…. it still gives me that orangish bar and not the beloved grey bar.

I’ll blame it on 7.2:)
For me, it seems to depend on the length of the section that I’m exporting which is very strange. Sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesn’t.

Well then…Jeremy DIDN’T solve it.
Whether I export a QT Reference movie, or self contained…doesn’t matter. The reimport always comes back 1280×720. And even if I do my Multiclip sequence trick, I need to render.
And the fact that Russell has to render on an FCP 6 timeline that supposedly CONFORMED to the clip…means that something is up. I have been seeing posts about this for a while…a few weeks actually. Around the time my exports started no longer working.
Was this a security update? What? I am perplexed because I did it, then I couldn’t…and I didn’t update a darn thing.
